A Glimpse of Women Visual Interpretation Exhibition

Women Artist Exhibition is the second art exhibition organized by Galeri Prima. The theme of the exhibition is Women Visual Interpretation. The chosen theme is to see the effectiveness of interpretations of idea and creativity of women artist in creating the art works that contain aesthetic value.    

There are four women artist participating in this exhibition. The artists that participate in this exhibition are new artist and senior artist that have long been involved in the country art scene.  There are fourty six art works that are been displayed in this exhibition. The artists that exhibit their art works used various medium to create the art work such as acrylic, oil, charcoal and mixed medium. The theme chosen are abstract, portrait and figure. Amongst the artists that take part in this exhibition are Rube Jamal, Marisa R Ng, Naddia Zakaria and Zaidah Abdullah. Besides participating in the exhibition locally, some of the artists have also participated in the exhibitions abroad. Their art works not only been collected by art collector locally but also been collected by art collector abroad.   

This women artist exhibition is unique because one prolific male artist has been invited to join this exhibition as a guest artist. He is Suzlee Ibrahim. This artist has long been involved in the art scene in the country and has established himself locally and abroad. He has held thirty solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions.  His art works not only been collected by art collectors locally but also been collected by art collectors abroad.

Rube Jamal a colourist, is an abstract artist, exhibits her paintings which explore colour, movement and space. Her used of colours in her paintings show that she is very skillful in mixing and composing colours. The way she applies the colours seem that the colours are printed on the canvas.

Zaidah Abdullah used acrylic to paint her landscape. She paints semi abstract landscape. In her landscape she explores more on composition, colour and space.

Marisa R Ng use figure as a theme in her paintings. In her figure paintings, she explore more on line, form and space. She also has a good understanding in proportion and figure anatomy.

Naddia Zakaria is a portrait painter. She painted the portraits in oil and focused on light and form. The portrait paintings that she exhibits portray a lot of feelings and emotions.

Suzlee Ibrahim is an abstract expressionist artist interested more in exploring elements of art on canvas. His painting focuses on composition and expression of emotion. The way he composed the elements of art shows that he is very experience and skillful artist.

ARTIST PROFILE

1. RUBE JAMAL

An abstract painter graduated with a Master of Fine Arts Degree from The Maryland Institute College of Art, USA. She has been participating  in art exhibitions since 1972. She has held various art exhibitions locally and abroad. Locally, she has held art exhibitions at National Visual Art Gallery, Museum of Asian Art, University of Malaya Art Gallery , Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, G13 Gallery, The New Straits Time Press, UM Specialist Centre Gallery, Foyer Fakulti Pendidikan UM, Foyer Dewan Tunku Chancellor UM, Main Library UM, Galleri ASWARA and Galeri Prima NSTP. While abroad, she held the exhibitions at The Pennsylvania State University and The Maryland Institute College of Art. Her art works are collected by University of Malaya Art Gallery. The New Straits Times Press, Access Alliance Asia Sdn Bhd and Private Collections locally and abroad. In addition to participating in art exhibitions, Rube Jamal had won several awards such as Financial Aid Award (Maryland Institute College of Art), Excellence Service Award (State Education Department of Selangor) and Juror Award Rasa Alam UKM 2011 Exhibition. Besides that, she was appointed as judge and chief judge in art competitions, presenter for art course and workshop.  

2. ZAIDAH ABDULLAH

Born in Johore, 1959. 

An art teacher by profession, Zaidah felt the need to immense herself further in art. She was on scholarship by the Ministry of Education for both her Bachelor of Fine Arts of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 1991 and Master of Education of Universiti Malaya in 1999. She still continued painting and inspiring her students and questioning the directions of art. 

After 30 years of teaching, Zaidah decided it was time to devote her efforts solely to her own painting and become a full time fine artist. 

She has previously taken part in few art exhibitions locally in exhibiting her artworks in galleries like the National Art gallery, Maybank Gallery, Kuching Museum in Sarawak since 1988 till 2015.  

3. MARISA R NG

Born in 1977, she studied at the National Academy of Arts, Culture & Heritage (ASWARA), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She did a course in figure drawing and continued her training in fine art under the private tutelage of Suzlee Ibrahim and Ismadi Salehuddin; both are prominent abstract artists in Malaysia. Marisa started her training in figurative studies and has done more than 1800 figurative sketches before her venture into the world of abstract art. She is a full time artist since 2010 and has held group shows locally and in Mauritius.

4. NADDIA ZAKARIA 

Holds a Diploma in Information Technology (UIA) and a Bachelor in Management Information System (UiTM). She is a new female artist in Malaysia and is very passionate in art. She likes to pain semi abstract by using oil paint. She has participated in various art exhibition at Rumah Terang Gallery, Shah Alam Gallery, The Gallery@ Starhill, Gapena Gallery, Pelita Hati, University of Malaya, MATIC and Whitebox, Publika. In addition, she also participated in art exhibition in Melaka and Langkawi. Most of her artworks are in private collections of individual. 

5. SUZLEE IBRAHIM – GUEST ARTIST

Born in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia (1967), and he has had 30 solo exhibitions, exhibited in more than 20 countries all over the world. Upon recognition for his participation in art scene, Suzlee was awarded In Recognition of Outstanding Creative Excellence – Emaar International Art Symposium Dubai/ UAE (2005), Japan-Malaysia Art Friendship Ambassador – Ministry of Culture Arts & Heritage Malaysia & World Arts and Culture Exchange Malaysia/Japan (2007), Tokoh Seni: Anugerah Citra Kencana – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (2011), Excellent Masters Award – Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam (2013), Anugerah Pengilmuan Seni – ASWARA (2014) and Pakar Industri Negara (National Experts) by The Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia (2016). Some of his works have made through auctions such as Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers Denmark, Sotheby’s Auction/ Elephant Parade Singapore, Henry Butcher Art Auction, KLAS Art Auction, Asian Ace Art Auctions and Masterpiece Fine Art Auction.  On 29th September 2015, Suzlee received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records as the artist who produced the longest painting (The Poem, Acrylic & oil on Canvas, 5 x 60 feet, 2010-2015).
